SCRUMTIOUS Shepherd's Pie

About the Recipe

The epitome of simple, homely comfort English food, shepherd’s pie is a casserole consisting of creamy mashed potatoes atop a rich and bubbly stew.


  • 1kg King Edward Potatoes, diced

  • 700g Lamb Mince

  • 100g Soured Cream

  • 70g Unsalted Butter, cut into 1-in chunks

  • 60ml Whole Milk

  • 100g grated Cheddar & Mozzarella mix

  • 2 Egg Yolks

  • 115g Streaky Bacon (6 rashers), diced

  • 2 medium Onions, diced

  • 2 Carrots, diced

  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced

  • 240ml Red Wine

  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour

  • 3 tablespoons Tomato Puree

  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce

  • 350ml Chicken Stock

  • 60g Frozen Peas

  • 2 tablespoons Chives, finely chopped


  1. Boil and then simmer potatoes uncovered, for 8-10 minutes. Potatoes should be soft and fork-tender. Do not over cook!

  2. Drain potatoes, mash and add soured cream, butter, milk, cheese mix & egg yolks. Stir till creamy.

  3. Fry bacon till crispy and remove from pan. Set aside.

  4. Add onions & carrots to bacon fat. Cook till soft.

  5. Add garlic & wine. Bring to the boil. Reduce by half.

  6. Add flour & stir. Then add lamb, tomato puree & Worcestershire sauce. Break up and stir until brown.

  7. Add chicken stock, peas, bacon & TT’s SCRUMPTIOUS Shepherd’s Pie seasoning. Stir and simmer for 2 min.

  8. Season to taste with salt & pepper.

  9. Transfer to oven dish. Add potato on top and score using a fork.

  10. Bake at 190°C until hot and bubbly, about 30 minutes.
